Washington DC Neighborhood Maps
This map collection was a study of neighborhood boundaries and the shapes they create. I selected 12 neighborhoods (see below). I researched historical contexts, consulted wards and advisory neighborhood commissions, business improvement districts, news articles and other media, businesses and residents. I discovered that some boundaries were clear: rivers, a high-speed multi-lane road, or a change in grade. But a lot of them were difficult to define or didn’t seem to exist at all. These neighborhood shapes have evolved over time---their boundaries sharpened and blurred. Throughout the life of the city they will continue to do so.
This study includes Adams Morgan, Columbia Heights, Park View, Dupont Circle, U Street, Bloomingdale, Logan Circle, Shaw, H Street, Capitol Hill, Southwest Waterfront, and Navy Yard.
